The weekend of Mother’s Day was most hectic with us starting a new radio program, getting gifts, and trying to take care of those things that seemed to be falling through the cracks.  I was anxious and a bit overwhelmed, but God took care of every concern.  I would love to report that after He had taken care of one thing that my fears subsided and I had pure confidence that He would likewise take care of all things, however, that is not the case.  It was not until God resolved the last concern that it dawned on me that He, the Almighty and the Prince of Peace, had removed every obstacle that had been in the way of me enjoying the day and resting in His provision.  He did it so perfectly that no one else would ever suspected that something was wrong.  When will we learn to be at peace to know that God will take care of it all?

Not that He is our butler but He is our Shepherd.  Later, that night, as I begin to thank God for orchestrating the day and calming my fears, I heard the Spirit of the Lord say “He Makes Me to Lie Down”.  This was not the first time that God spoke these words to me.  In fact, in the midst of health issues, finances and struggles He had likewise spoken these words to my spirit.  I am so glad that He keeps on pursuing and keeps on speaking and keeps on reaching out to draw us closer.

He makes me to lie down is written in Psalm 23 by David who himself was a shepherd and a man after God’s own heart.  I can imagine David lying back looking at his sheep recalling his duties as a shepherd and equating this task with the "Good Shepherd".  He guides his sheep, protect them from their enemies both great and small.  He tends to their health, He goes before them to prepare the way, feeds them and even sacrifices his own life for them.

Sheep cannot be at rest when they are irritated, fearful, anxious, hungry, discontent or even when there is friction in the flock. They can only lie down when they have eaten and the danger or the concern is removed.  So what are you concerned about what is irritating you, why are you discontent?  As in the Psalms says “Why is my soul disquieted within me”?  It can be stated this way Why are you – troubled, confused, vexed, or in an uproar?  Why are you disquieted in mind arising from your cares?

Birthed in Prayer…

Who else but God could have come up with the amazing plan of hiding within a miniscule seed the fullness of His purpose?  Think about the wisdom and power of God in being able to produce a human being from the union of a single sperm cell and a tiny egg.  So much of what we enjoy in its fullness started as a small seed no larger than a mustard seed.  Buried within that small particle is the fullness of all that it contains and will one day become.  Every year gardener’s plant seeds with expectation of the growth of their favorite fruits and vegetables.  They water the seed, they manicure the land and they EXPECT it to grow.  Unsure if it will be Monday or Friday, week 4 or week 5 but sure that it will come forth, and so it does.

To the natural eye it hardly seems possible; to the natural mind God’s ways are inconceivable – God continues to confound the wisdom of men by stretching the realm of human reasoning.  To the world and to worldly wisdom, the plan of God seems foolish.  In fact, many learned men and women have summarily dismissed it.  Professing themselves to be wise they have unknowingly proven that they are fools.  The fool continues to openly confess their denial of the only wise God.

While their denial may offend and anger some believers, God is not offended, He is not moved when the creation of His hand rejects Him, He simply continues being God because He knows the day is approaching when Every knee shall bow and Every tongue confess, even the tongue that has laughed, scoffed, scorned, and denied Him, will confess that He is LORD!  He will be glorified and His name will be vindicated and every mouth shall declare it.
